Making Tax Digital (MTD) will fundamentally change the administration of the UK tax system. On 13 July 2017 the government announced a new timetable and changes to the implementation, which means that MTD will not take effect until April 2019. Only businesses with a turnover above the VAT threshold (currently £85,000) will have to keep digital records, and only for VAT purposes. Businesses will not be asked to keep digital records, or update HMRC quarterly for other taxes until at least 2020.
